Our Leaders

What is an Elder?

One of the questions every Elder is asked before they take office is: “Will you be a faithful Elder, watching over the people, providing for their worship, nurture and service?” We understand that Elders are called to be spiritual leaders. When they say “yes” to taking on this role, they are making a commitment to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation. They lead by example, drawing us into the mission of the church and to providing us with opportunities to serve. Our elders are divided into teams and committees, including: Worship and the Arts, Spiritual Formation, Hospitality and Growth, Church Life, Stewardship and Finance, Properties, UPC Discovery Preschool, and Nature Connections.

What is a Deacon?

The office of Deacon was established early in the New Testament church to make sure food was distributed to widows and others in need. We understand that the ministry of Deacons is one of sympathy, witness, and service, following the example of Jesus Christ. We look to our Deacons to lead us in caring for those in need, the sick, the friendless, and any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith. Our Deacons are divided into parish groups and shepherd smaller groups of congregants. The Health and Wellness Committee is an essential part of this work, supporting us with important healthcare information, screenings, and activities.
